former member of Rajya SabhaSwaminathan contributed to the agricultural renaissance in the country and led the nation to achieve green revolution.             
                                                 
MS Swaminathan has served as Director of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute. He served as Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Secretary to the Government of India, Department of Agricultural Research and Education.

Sachin Tendulkar retired from Test cricket

Noted batsman Sachin Tendulkar on 10 October 2013 announced his decision to retire from Test cricket after playing his landmark 200th Test match against the West Indies in November 2013.                                               

Previously, Sachin Tendulkar announced retirement form one day cricket on 23 December 2012 and from Twenty-20 cricket format on 26 May 2013.

International Day of the Girl Child

International Day of the Girl Child International Day of the Girl Child observed on 11 October 2013 across the world to recognize the girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.

This year’s Day focuses on innovating for girls’ education.

Alice Munro

Alice Munro Canadian author Alice Munro has won the 2013 Nobel Prize for Literature. The 82-year-old, whose books include Dear Life and Dance of the Happy Shades, is only the 13th woman to win the prize since its inception in 1901.
The Swedish Academy which selects Nobel literature winners described her as the master of the contemporary short story. Munro won the Man Booker International Prize for her entire body of work in 2009. Her most recent collection is Dear Life (2012).

Srihari: noted Telugu film actor, Srihari died on 9 October. He was shooting for a Hindi film Rambo Rajkumar being directed by Prabhu Deva with Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. 
Srihari, was suffering from a liver ailment for some time. He had acted in 98 movies.He performed the roles of a stunt performer and villain before making his debut as a hero in ‘Police’in 1999.

Megan Young- Miss World 2013

Megan Young of Philippines  was crowned Miss World 2013 at the Bali Nasa Dua Convention Center in Bali, Indonesia. Miss France, Marine Lorphelin finished as the first runner-up, Miss Ghana Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter was the second runner up. Megan Young won the competition after beating 130 contestants across the globe. 
                                            
She is 23 years old. She is a student of filmmaking.Megan was born in US and she moved to the Philippines. Megan wants to become a director after gaining experience and finishing her. 

Moe Set Wine-

Moe Set Wine of Myanmar’s  was  selected as the first Miss Universe contestant to represent her country in more than 50 years time. The US-educated business graduate was chosen as the first Miss Universe contestant who will represent Myanmar in over 50 years.
